THE VARNISH DOCTORS Gallery

We have references for our work going back many years. This is a letter of recommendation from a favourite project. back in 1998:

“Dear Sir,

Friend has worked aboard “Braveheart” as a member of a three-man freelance varnishing team for nearly three weeks. Friend and his colleagues, during this time, undertook an extensive and challenging varnishing program that included all external varnished surfaces, many of which are complex in design and construction (such as the ship’s wheel and fine detail on skylights and coamings etc).

(…)

(Friend) is very knowledgeable on the subject of varnish work and has proved himself to be a hard worker of considerable experience.

Finally, to any future yacht owner/captain considering this type of work in St Lucia, I am happy to recommend Friend as a reliable, conscientious tradesman with a professional and courteous attitude.

Yours faithfully,
Ben Duxbury

Coming right up to the recent past (2022), this is Friend (L) and Jeremiah (Nucky) (R) with Dietmar Henke, captain and owner of Cesarina, a very special Sparkman & Stephens Swan 55 built in 1971. Dietmar wrote:

“I sailed to St Lucia with the ARC and met you both on the pontoon in Rodney Bay Marina in 2016. I didn’t know who you were but you showed me your references and I was impressed. When I saw how you started to work, I knew I was in safe hands, but nothing could have prepared me for the extraordinarily good final result when you had finished revarnishing all of Cesarina’s superstructure.

I was so impressed that I promised to come back. And I did – five years later, after my circumnavigation. If anything, the result is even better this time around. You two have magic hands. I cannot recommend you highly enough to other boat owners, especially to classic yachts.
Very many thanks again,

Dietmar Henke

We have albums full of photographs and a folder full of references if you would like to see them…

You will also find us in Chris Doyle’s sailing guides. We’ve been working on boats for a very long time here in St Lucia and up and down the Caribbean.

We love our work and we are pretty sure that it shows.

If you’d like to know more – or you’d like us to come and have a look at your boat in Rodney Bay Marina or in Marigot Bay, St Lucia – please get in touch.

We look forward to hearing from you.
